Biography
Geffrey Davis is a poet and professor born in the Pacific Northwest who lives with his family in the Ozarks. In Night Angler, winner of the 2018 James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets, Davis’ poems “sing in both ecstatic joy and tremendous lament,” poet Oliver de la Paz wrote. Both a love letter to a son and a meditation on parenthood, family, race, and loss, Davis’ poems come to terms with a drug-addicted father, growing up Black in America, and being a husband and father amid racial violence. Davis’ debut, Revising the Storm, won the A. Poulin, Jr. Poetry Prize. He serves as poetry editor for Iron Horse Literary Review and teaches with the Program in Creative Writing & Translation at the University of Arkansas, and with the Rainier Writing Workshop, Pacific Lutheran's low-residency MFA program.
